A large province in the middle of China, Sichuan, has a great deal of history and currently holds what was once historically part of Tibet, the state of Kham. The province has a large number of Tibetans in the west, Miao in the east, Yi to the southwest, and Qiang minorities to the north. In 2008 a city in the northeast was hit by a devastating earthquake. Sichuan is also known for spicy food (and spicy women). One of the former Chairmen, Deng Xiao Ping, is also a native of Sichuan.
